Medical Gas Solutions Limited (MGS) is authorised to manufacture and distribute Medical Oxygen and Nitronox as compressed gases in cylinders under pressure. Oxygen is essential for life. Medical oxygen is supplied as a compressed gas in a cylinder under pressure. A variety of cylinder sizes and pressures up to 300 bar can be supplied. Medical oxygen is used to increase the levels of oxygen in the tissues of the body for example for resuscitation purposes by trained personnel when oxygen supply is reduced due to a medical emergency. Nitronox is a mixture of 50% oxygen and 50% nitrous oxide. It is supplied as a compressed gas in a cylinder under pressure. A variety of cylinder sizes and pressures up to 200 bar can be supplied. Nitronox is used as an analgesic for the effective relief of short-term and intermittent pain. MGS can only supply medical gases to persons that may lawfully administer the medical gas such as a healthcare professional; persons that may lawfully sell the medical gas such as a pharmacist or to the holder of a wholesale dealers licence for medical gases. Medical Gases are classified as medicines. All medicines are subject to regulations to ensure the safety of patients. In the Before a medicine can be made or sold a number of licenses are essential. In the Any company manufacturing and/or distributing a medicine must have the appropriate licences (manufacturer's authorisation and/or wholesale dealers licence). The medicines itself must also have a licence before it can be supplied to the market. This licence is called a marketing authorisation (formerly called a product licence).
